What happened
The animated show has brought back Apu Nahasapeemapetilon with a different voice. American actor Sunil Malhotra, who came to the US from India as a child, replaces Hank Azaria in the role. The character had not spoken on the show for eight years.
Why it matters
The casting means a South Asian performer now voices the role instead of a white actor. Malhotra said the return is truly his homecoming.
